It looks like a fondamenta like so many others, with the rio (small canal) on one side and the walls of houses on the other. But a stone’s throw from the church of Angelo Raffaele a little gate opens onto one of the most improbable things in Venice: a bowls ground. Three covered lanes twenty-seven metres long, a garden, a bar, chairs for those watching.
