In the heart of Dorsoduro, clustered around one of Venice’s oldest churches, Campo de l’Anzolo Rafael, a quiet campo (Venetian square), still has its vera da pozzo (stone wellhead). It bears the precise date 1349 and is one of the city’s oldest wellheads still in its original place. The parapet carries the Ariani coat of arms; their Gothic palazzo overlooks the nearby rio (canal).
