Everything Calletta does

Calletta is a Venice audio guide for your phone: it tells 1,230 places out loud, walks you through the lanes with a map and spoken directions, works without a connection and keeps a diary of your day. Here is everything, in the order you use it.

Before you leave

Download the guide on wifi. The guide and the itinerary audio download to your phone before you leave. On the street the downloaded map and pages work even where there is no signal.

Create Walk, the made-to-measure route. Say how much time you have (from 30 minutes to 8 hours), where you start and where you want to end up: Calletta plans a walk through real lanes and bridges. Three styles: great classics, balanced, hidden Venice. Pick your interests (churches, palaces, squares and bridges). You can ask for “another” walk, save it and share it with a QR code.

The 12 ready-made itineraries. Historic routes, with the stops linked by real walking paths. Itinerary 12, along the Grand Canal, is by vaporetto.

While you walk

Listen as you walk. With headphones in and the app open, when you get near a place a Venetian bell rings and the story starts by itself. You choose the radius.

Walking navigation with a voice. It tells you where to turn and how far is left. You can skip a stop, and if you pass one further on the earlier ones are skipped automatically. The screen stays on.

The map that follows you. Illustrated map of Venice with the monuments drawn like stickers, your position and the compass. How the position works in the lanes.

Drinking fountains and public toilets. 141 fountains and 16 public toilets on the map, with opening times and facilities (accessibility, baby changing, prices).

Listening and reading

Audio with text that lights up. While the voice tells the story, the text lights up word by word. You choose the voice speed and the text size.

St Mark’s Basilica and the Doge’s Palace room by room. The floor plans are redrawn and numbered: each number opens the page of the room or the work.

Search the way you think. By name, by artist or by word: “Titian” finds every place that mentions him.

Music, if you like. A baroque background at low volume that drops even lower when the voice speaks. It is off by default.

10 languages. Italian, English, Spanish, French, German, Portuguese, Polish, Chinese, Korean and Japanese: pages and audio.

Every place

The story, what to look at, the curiosities, practical information (free or paid entry, opening times) and photos with the name of who took them. Places with an interior have a main page and the interior stops in visiting order.

Remembering

The diary. The route of your day on the map, the kilometres walked, the times and the photos you take with Calletta, with the cone showing the direction you were facing. It is free forever and stays on your phone.

The places you liked. A heart on places, and the ranking of the most loved.
