The Fondamenta di Lizza Fusina looks onto the rio di San Nicolò, in the district of Dorsoduro, in a neighbourhood that has always been working-class: fishermen, labourers and port stevedores. It used to be called the Fondamenta del Traghetto di Lizza Fusina: from here departed the boat for Fusina, the first mainland shore at the mouth of the Brenta, until in the 18th century the service was moved to San Basilio.
