Look at the frontage running between Palazzo Gritti and the campo (square) of San Simeone: low warehouse buildings, nothing that recalls a palace. Yet here, overlooking the Grand Canal at the end of Riva di Biasio, once stood a house of the Correr, one of the oldest patrician families of the Serenissima (the Republic of Venice) — the same family as Teodoro the collector, from whom the museum on St Mark’s Square descends.
