At the centre of the rio di San Trovaso — the canal that cuts through Dorsoduro in an almost straight line from the Giudecca to the Grand Canal — this stone and brick bridge still bears the date of its birth: MDXXXII, 1532, carved on the arch ring beside a moeca lion of St Mark which the French chiselled away after 1797.
