Halfway between the Rialto and Campo San Polo, the Ponte de la Madoneta crosses the rio of the same name, a small Venetian canal, just a few steps from the Santa Sofia traghetto, the gondola ferry. Its name comes from a shrine, now gone from the bridge, which once held an image of the Blessed Virgin, deeply venerated in the neighbourhood.
