On Campo San Beneto (a campo is a Venetian square) dominates one of the largest Gothic constructions in Venice — Sansovino judged it ’worthy of the position of the Grand Canal’ — and one of the most harmonious not facing the canal: Palazzo Pesaro, commissioned by Benedetto Pesaro in the mid-15th century and called ’degli Orfei’ after the Accademia Filarmonica that had its seat here in the 18th century.
