In the silent Campo San Beneto, two steps from the Fortuny Museum, opens one of the oldest churches of San Marco. San Benedetto, the ’Beneto’ of the Venetians, arose in 1005 through the work of several families of the contrada, the Caloprini and Falier among others; in 1013 the Falier ceded it to the Benedictines of Brondolo, and only in 1435 did a Venetian pope, Eugenius IV, make it independent.
