Just before the Rialto, on the Grand Canal, the white portico of Palazzo Dolfin Manin is one of the most severe and admired facades in Venice: Jacopo Sansovino designed it between 1538 and 1547 for the Dolfin, who wanted to replace two medieval houses with a palace ’in the Roman manner’ that cost thirty thousand ducats.
