On Campo San Salvador (a Venetian square), two minutes from the Rialto, stands the seat of Venice’s oldest confraternity: the Scuola di San Teodoro was born in 1258 beside the church of the same name — and at first gathered in a room above the portego of San Salvador’s main door — the first of those that would become Grandi — but had to wait until 1552 to obtain the rank, the last of the six historic ones.
