At the foot of the Rialto Bridge, San Polo side, this pentagonal palace follows the curve of the Grand Canal like a strongbox wedged into the vault: it was built by Guglielmo dei Grigi, called il Bergamasco, between 1525 and 1528, to a design by Codussi and Lombardo, at the wish of Doge Andrea Gritti — within the great building site that raised Rialto again after the fire of 1514.
