In a corner of Campo San Gallo (a Venetian square, or campo), once Campo Rusolo, one of Venice’s smallest sacred buildings survives among the 20th-century bank buildings. The Oratorio di San Gallo is the last remnant of the Ospizio Orseolo, a shelter for pilgrims travelling to the Holy Land that tradition attributes to Doge Pietro Orseolo I in the 10th century, beside St Mark’s Campanile.
