A calle (a narrow Venetian street) in the sestiere (district) of San Marco that links the area of the Square, through the Sotoportego dei Dai, with the Campo and the Ponte dei Dai, towards San Moisè. The name recalls the blacksmiths: here stood their Scuola, one of Venice’s oldest guilds, active since the early centuries of the second millennium, when the smiths worked iron on behalf of the doges; its oldest statute dates to December 1271.
