Here, almost five centuries ago, there stood a theatre by Andrea Palladio. In 1565 the company of the Accesi, one of the branches of the compagnia della Calza (a company of young Venetian patricians), commissioned Andrea Palladio to build a wooden theatre in the entrance hall and in part of the courtyard of the monastery of the Carità. The result was a building “in the likeness of half a Colosseum in Rome”.
