Between Palazzo Mocenigo Gambara and the Gallerie dell’Accademia, Palazzo Querini Vianello, also known as Palazzo alla Carità, is the most understated Neoclassical palace on this stretch of the Grand Canal. Its clean, spare 18th-century façade replaced a Gothic house and was enlarged in 1868; for many years the building housed the British Consulate. The Querini were one of the oldest patrician families, with roots in the 12th century.
