On the Grand Canal, between the palazzi Contarini degli Scrigni and Querini alla Carità, opposite Palazzo Giustinian Lolin, Palazzo Mocenigo Gambara is recognisable by its austere and deliberately asymmetrical front: built around the mid-17th century in place of a 16th-century building — perhaps designed by Mauro Codussi and documented in the engravings — it was the home of the Mocenigo and here the admiral Lazzaro was born, hero of the war of Candia.
