One of Venice’s oldest churches, it may have originated in the 10th century, around the cult of a martyr who came from Sabrata, in Tripolitania, by way of Torcello. Its present appearance dates from the 18th century: rebuilt in 1679, it was then badly damaged by a major fire and rebuilt and consecrated in 1733 thanks to Senator Filippo Donà.
