Few calli (Venetian lanes) in Venice bear so old a name. Calle Caotorta, in the sestiere (district) of San Marco a stone’s throw from Campo Sant’Angelo, runs narrowly between the houses as far as the rio della Verona — which the old papers also call rio Menuo — and owes its name to one of the oldest families in the city: the Caotorta, whom legend made descendants of the Trojan refugees who landed in the lagoon with Antenor.
