There is a light-coloured slab in the paving of Campo Sant’Angelo that almost everyone treads on without looking at it. Yet it is a death certificate. The Latin inscription, now very worn, reads: TEMPLUM ARCHANGELI MICHAELIS AMOLITUM ANNO MDCCCXXXVII — FORUM SILICE STRATUM AERE CIVICO ANNO MDCCCXLI. That is: the temple of the Archangel Michael was demolished in 1837, and the campo was paved at the Municipality’s expense in 1841.
