Stop on the quay in front of the Salute and look for a narrow little palace, wedged between much larger buildings: it is Ca’ Contarini-Fasan, perhaps the most refined jewel of Venetian flamboyant Gothic. Built around 1475 by the Contarini family — the nickname Fasan comes from the owners’ passion for pheasant hunting — it is tall, slender and completely covered with stone inlay that from afar looks like stone lace.
