Ruga Giuffa is one of the most elegant calli (streets) behind Campo Santa Maria Formosa — and its name is a small atlas: ’ruga’ in Venetian means street, while ’Giuffa’ is almost certainly a corruption of Julfa, the Armenian city the merchants who lived here and traded in silk, cotton, wool and dyes from the East came from.
