The Ponte Donà is a small brick bridge crossing the rio di Sant’Agostin a step away from Campo Sant’Agostino, in the heart of San Polo: stone and brick, iron bands in symmetrical oval patterns, and at the centre of the arch the traces of a chiselled-off St Mark’s lion. The calle leading to it has a double name, Donà or del Spezier, after the spice shop that stood on the bridge’s little square.
