On the Rio dei Mendicanti, at the entrance to Campo Santi Giovanni e Paolo, on the border between Cannaregio and Castello, stands a bridge of brick and stone, with brick parapets and two carved faces on each side. It has been called Ponte del Cavallo only since the early 16th century; before that, it was Ponte de la Scuola, after the nearby Scuola Grande di San Marco, now the monumental entrance to the city hospital.
