On the fondamenta that runs along the rio (a small canal) of Santa Maria Maggiore, in the San Nicolò dei Mendicoli quarter of Dorsoduro, overlooks a 17th-century building now divided into dwellings: it was the palazzo of the Rizzo, fabulously rich goldsmiths of Rialto who in 1687 — by paying — were admitted to the Venetian patriciate, and they left such a mark that the nearby bridge, formerly ’delle Procuratie’, is still called Ponte de Cà Rizzi and leads to the opposite bank, towards the Cazziola.
