The Fondamenta delle Procuratie runs along the rio di Santa Maria Maggiore, at the western end of Dorsoduro, and closes together with the parallel Fondamenta dei Cereri a neighbourhood born in the 16th century for charity. The name does not come from noble palazzi but from the houses the Procuratori di San Marco gave to be lived in ’amore dei’ — for the love of God — to indigent families, according to the pious intentions of the testators.
