The Fondamenta dei Cereri — a fondamenta is a canalside walkway — in Dorsoduro, along the rio di Santa Maria Maggiore (a Venetian canal) which upstream becomes the Rio del Tentor after the dyeworks that looked onto it, preserves the name of the craft of the cereri, the candle makers: here and at the nearby Ponte della Cereria — a name transplanted in 1933 onto the new bridge of the Rio Novo — the wax masters had their workshops.
