In Salizzada Carminati — a salizzada is one of the streets Venice paved first — a stone’s throw from the campo (square) of San Stae, this post-Palladian palazzo of the early 17th century was the house of the Carminati, wealthy merchants from Bergamo who in 1687 bought their admission to the Venetian patriciate — the classic parabola of a fortune from commerce converted into a coat of arms, the one two angels still hold in the lunette above the portal.
