Set between the houses along the Strada Nova and almost entirely swallowed by them, the little church of Santa Sofia is one of the oldest in Venice: it was commissioned by the Gussoni family and Giorgio Tribuno — the old chronicles say it existed as early as 886 — and a document mentions it in 1020. It was rebuilt twice, in 1225 and in 1568, and radically restored in 1698.
