On the campo (Venetian square) of the same name, in the heart of Santa Croce, stands one of the city’s oldest churches. Chronicles date its foundation to the 9th century, so long ago that it once depended on the Patriarchate of Grado, before the diocese was incorporated into that of Venice. The present building dates to the reconstruction of 1225, with later alterations in the 15th and 16th centuries.
