On the quiet Fondamenta degli Ognissanti (canalside walkway), at the western edge of Dorsoduro, stands a church born of a miracle: here in the 15th century the Cistercian nuns fleeing unhealthy Torcello took refuge, and here, in 1504, an image of the Madonna shone with celestial light, drawing the entire city — and the alms to build the present church, consecrated in 1586.
