Halfway between San Marco, the Rialto and the Accademia, Campo San Fantin is the theatrical heart of Venice: here the late-Renaissance church - which for centuries was also dedicated to Santa Maria delle Grazie - faces the colonnade of the Teatro La Fenice, and the pairing is no accident: for centuries people left this campo (Venetian square) in costume heading for the theatre and came back late at night.
