This calle (street), with its sottoportico (covered passageway), lies in the San Polo sestiere (district). It leads from Ruga Vecchia, an old Venetian street, to Campiello della Scuola and towards the Scuola Grande di San Giovanni Evangelista, just a few steps from the Frari. Its name recalls a shellac factory that once stood here.
