A calle (Venetian street) with two names stitched together: ‘del Campaniel’, after the bell tower of San Tomà that once stood at its entrance on the campo (square) — it is gone now, though its base survives, topped by an open-sided belfry — and ‘detta Civran’, after the family’s palazzo at the Grand Canal end. The Civrans were an ancient family: Malfatti traced their origins to Cervia, and their coat of arms bears a silver stag.
