Among the oldest palaces on the Grand Canal, Ca’ da Mosto has kept almost all its 13th-century appearance: a row of raised Byzantine arches runs above a portico with three arches, where merchant boats once unloaded their goods straight into the house. Alvise da Mosto was born here in 1432. In Portugal’s service, he explored the coasts of West Africa and discovered the uninhabited Cape Verde islands.
