Between Campo San Bartolomeo and Campo San Salvador runs the first stretch of the Mercerie, which the nizioleti (the painted street signs) today call Marzarieta 2 Aprile and which, like nearby Calle Larga XXII Marzo, bears a date instead of a saint: 2 April 1849, the day Daniele Manin made the besieged city cry out ’resistance at all costs’ against the Austrians.
