You are walking along one of Cannaregio’s busiest thoroughfares, among shops and the sounds of the market. Today, Rio Terà della Maddalena forms part of the main pedestrian route from the station towards the Grand Canal and Rialto. Its unusual width is a gift from the canal that once flowed here: rio terà means a street built over a filled-in canal.
