On the Rio Terrà della Maddalena — a rio terrà, a street created by filling in a canal, and perhaps the first in Venice, as early as 1398 — stands at number 2343 the 17th-century Palazzo Donà dalle Rose, home of a branch of the patrician family that gave the Serenissima three doges — Francesco, Leonardo and Nicolò, all within a century, between 1545 and 1618.
