The Bridge of Sighs looks like a little piece of postcard architecture, but it was born as a device of Venetian justice. At the beginning of the 17th century, to a design by Antonio Contin and by the will of doge Marino Grimani, it was thrown across the Rio di Palazzo to join the Doge’s Palace to the Prigioni Nuove.
