The Ponte dei Lustraferri crosses the rio (Venetian canal) of the same name in Cannaregio, joining the Fondamenta degli Ormesini to the Fondamenta della Misericordia (fondamenta means canalside walkway). The ’lustraferri’ were the artisans who put the shine on iron, above all on the prow irons of gondolas, which left the blacksmiths’ workshops dull and blackish and came back gleaming like mirrors.
