On the Fondamenta della Sensa (a canalside walkway), where Cannaregio opens towards the western lagoon, Palazzo Michiel at no. 2318 is a graceful Lombardesque building from the early 16th century, perhaps designed by Giovanni Buora. It was once considered one of the noblest palaces in the area, and its façade was entirely covered with frescoes by Andrea Schiavone, now lost. Arnoldo Ferrier, ambassador of France to the Serenissima, lived here.
