Opposite the church of the Carmini, on the rio di Santa Margherita, this grand construction — rebuilt in the 17th century and enlarged in the first half of the 18th — was the dwelling of the branch of the Foscarini that gave Venice one of its last doges: Marco Foscarini, procurator of St Mark’s, librarian of the Marciana and official historiographer of the Republic, elected doge in 1762 and dead a few months later, in March 1763.
