Between Palazzo Papadopoli and Palazzo Donà della Madoneta stands one of the oldest palaces on the Grand Canal. The Donà founded it around the mid-13th century; tradition counts them among the very founders of Venice. It was a huge fondaco (warehouse) with nine vaults opening onto the water.
