The campanile of San Polo does not stand beside its church: it faces it, beyond the salizada, and the street passes around it, narrowing as it goes. It was erected in 1362 — the date is in the inscription together with the name of the works’ procurator, Filippo Dandolo — all in brick, with the conical terminal pine cone typical of 14th-century Venetian bell towers.
