Everyone crosses Campo Manin looking up, towards the statue. It is worth doing the opposite: at the foot of the pedestal, set into the paving, there is a slab of pale stone traced with bronze letters and lines. It is the plan of this very campo (a Venetian square) as it was before the 19th-century demolitions, with an inscription that says it all: CAMPO S. PATERNIAN E ADIACENZE PRIMA DEGLI INTERVENTI DEL XIX SECOLO.
