At first glance, the railing looks like a pattern of hearts and scrolls, much like others in Venice. But come closer and look at one section: the scroll at the top forms a W, the flourish in the centre a V, and the two mirrored curls at the sides are two Es. W-V-E, repeated along the entire bridge, element by element, on cast-iron uprights. This is no blacksmith’s whim: it is a signature.
