The columns of the Fondaco dei Tedeschi are covered in signatures. Not the tourists’ ones: those of the merchants who lived inside it for three centuries. Over two hundred marks engraved in the stone — symbols, monograms, interlaced initials — make this courtyard an archive of families and workshops that has almost no equal in the world.
