Narrow and always crowded, the Frezzeria draws an L between the Fenice and St Mark’s Square: until 1863, before the Bacino Orseolo offered a more direct route, it was the quickest link between Campo San Luca and the Piazza. The name tells of its first trade: here the ’frezeri’ made and sold arrows, and the Latin chroniclers called it vicus sagittarius (the archers’ lane).
