One of the most history-laden churches in Venice, a stone’s throw from St Mark’s Square. It was founded in the 9th century at the behest of the doge Giustiniano Partecipazio, with the help — according to tradition — of the Eastern emperor Leo V the Armenian, and dedicated to Zacharias, father of John the Baptist, whose body is venerated here.
