Just a short walk from the bustle of Rialto, on the small campo (Venetian square) of the same name, the church of San Silvestro looks like a quiet neoclassical parish church. But a glance from outside reveals an unusual orientation: the façade that now faces the rio terà (a filled-in canal, now a street) used to be the apse, while the main entrance opened onto the Grand Canal.
